Star Trek VI

Captain's log, stardate 9522.6: I've never trusted Klingons, and I never will. I could

never forgive them for the death of my boy. It seems to me our mission to escort

the Chancellor of the Klingon High Council to a peace summit is problematic

                             at best.

The sixth film begins with the explosion of Qo'nos' moon Praxis. Qo'nos is a Klingon homeworld and its moon is a key energy production facility; its destruction damages their homeworlds atmosphere. The Klingon empire is not too pleased about this occurrence and relations with the Federation worsens, resulting in Starfleet sending te USS Enterprise being sent to meet Chancellor Gorkon (Klingon) and escorting him to earth for negotiations, a decision that does not bode well with Kirk as his son died at the hands of klingon's. Upon boarding the Enterprise and having dinner things only get worse when both Humans and Klingons spar on the eventual course of the projected peace, discussing, among other things, the possible annihilation of Klingon culture.

While en route to Earth, some time after the ceremonial dinner, the Enterprise appears to fire upon the unguarded Qo'noS One (a Klingon ship) with a pair of torpedoes. The hits are scored in strategic spots on the ship’s underbelly, and, among other things, artifical gravity aboard the Klingon vessel fails. During the calamity, two people wearing Starfleet atmospheric suits and magnetic boots beam aboard Qo'noS One, and assassinate Gorkon. Captain Kirk, after surrendering the Enterprise, beams aboard Qo'noS One with Dr. McCoy in an effort to save the Chancellor’s life. They fail, are arrested, accused of the crime (in Kirk’s case, ordering the attack; in McCoy’s case, failing to save the Chancellor’s life) and taken to Qo'nos for trial. Gorkon’s daughter, Azetbur, becomes the new Chancellor, and wishes to push forward with diplomatic negotiations. This time, for reasons of security, the conference will be held on a neutral world, the location of which is kept a secret from the general public and from most Starfleet and Klingon Defence Force officers.

Following their trial Kirk and McCoy are taken to the gulag planetoid Rura Penthe, a orced labour camp. There they meet a shapeshifter by the name of Martia, who offers them a method of escape. After making their way across the frozen wasteland of the prison world, they are betrayed by Martia, who is killed by Klingon guards upon arriving at the scene. The Enterprise, however, manages to con its way past bored Klingon frontier guards, beam up the two in time, and escape back across the border.

While Kirk and McCoy were imprisoned, Spock took over command and led the investigation onboard of what happened. After Kirk and McCoy are rescued, they determine that there must have been help on board. The two assassins are shot at point blank range, but Kirk and Spock trick the traitor into believing they are alive and about to give their statement to the court reporter in sick bay. Lt. Valeris arrives, presumably to finish them off, but Kirk and Spock are waiting for her. Eventually, Spock uses the mind-meld to find out what they can about the attack, the conspirators and the proto-type Bird of Prey that can fire when cloaked.

Kirk proceeds to contact the USS Excelsior, commanded by Captain Hikaru Sulu, where Kirk learns of the location of the peace conference. Both ships, at opposite ends of Federation territorial space, head for the conference, at Camp Khitomer, at maximum speed. As it nears the planet, the Enterprise is intercepted by Chang’s modified Bird of Prey, which can fire while cloaked, and was responsible for firing on Qo’nos One. Chang fires upon the Enterprise multiple times, and then upon the Excelsior when Sulu arrives midbattle. A specialized torpedo, modified by Spock and Dr. McCoy to track engine emissions from the Klingon ship, is fired on and impacts Chang’s vessel. With the ship's position clearly identified, Excelsior and Enterprise then fire repeatedly on the ship, destroying it.

Parties from both ships storm the conference, halt an assassination attempt on the Federation President, kill the assassin, and arrest several conspirators. Afterwards, the Enterprise heads back for Earth, to be decomissioned, but not before the crew takes one last defiant joyride.
